About Johanna
I make multimedia work that brings people into closer relationship with plants and place. My practice spans short films, sound recordings, interviews, sculpture, illustration and wildcraft, often rooted in participatory foraging, gardening and herbal knowledge.
I focus on how relationships with the natural world are rebuilt. Through this work, I look at plants as collaborators, especially within community-led and land-based practices. I’m interested in how acts like tending a garden or walking to gather plants can become forms of resistance.
My process is hands-on and seasonal. I work with materials I grow, gather or encounter through community projects. These interactions with plants and fungi shape my final pieces.
I aim to create work that feels accessible and grounded. offering people ways to reconnect with plants, with each other and their own embodied knowledge.

Workshops
foraging, wildcrafting and gardening workshops
I run guided foraging, nature journaling and wildcrafting walks, focussing on reciprocal foraging practices and how to get more confident in identifying wild foods. They are a relaxed environment to learn more about Edinburgh's local ecology and a lovely way to meet new people while learning about nature together. I am also available for gardening workshops and run workshops for community growing projects around the city.
I especially care about enabling nature education for groups and individuals who may face barriers to outdoor learning and nature connection. All privately run walks and workshops are run on a pay-as-you-can sliding-scale basis with capacity for free spots.
I've worked with a variety of projects, groups and organisations including Edinburgh Lothian Greenspace Trust, VOCAL Edinburgh Carers' Hub and the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh.

Myceliart Collective
I’m a co-founder of Myceliart, a collaborative network of artists, who draw creative inspiration from the fascinating world of fungi. We organise community events that creatively engage with mycology, as well as LGBTQIA+ safe spaces for exploring nature and its wonders.
As part of the Myceliart collective, I had the pleasure of co-curating the Fungi & Folklore Community Exhibition with Oona Dooley at Granton Hub in October 2023, celebrating the intersection of art, folklore and the mycological world.
Check out our Eventbrite for any upcoming forays, workshops or events.
